Year of the Pony (and iPod)

Posted by bronwynr on January 23, 2009

‘Princess Diaries’ author Meg Cabot decodes the world of 7- and 10-year-old girls They’re here.

They speak their own language. They worship their own idols. Many of them are less than 4 feet tall.

And two of them will be invading the White House in January 2009.

No, I’m not talking about life forms from another solar system. I’m talking about seven-year-old Sasha Obama and 10-year-old Malia, who no doubt rule over the household in which they live.

Girls of seven and 10 currently have a stranglehold not only on their parents’ heartstrings, but on the entertainment industry as well, from their love of chat speak (a form of written language practiced via text messaging: hi how r u y wont u tawk 2 me dont b dum lol) to their worship of the High School Musical syndicate
